CMS Hosting

UK CMS hosting: managed hosting for every content management system

Thirteen content management systems, two kinds of hosting. PHP platforms run on our LiteSpeed and NVMe cloud plans from £5.99 a month; Node.js, .NET, Python and Rails platforms get a managed UK VPS from £24.99. Free migration by our UK team either way, and the same AMD EPYC hardware underneath.st.

What it is

What CMS hosting means, and why the platform matters

CMS hosting is web hosting set up for a specific content management system: the right runtime version, the database it expects, the caching that suits how it renders pages, and a support team that has seen its error messages before. Generic hosting will run most of them. Hosting tuned for the platform runs them faster and breaks less.

The split that matters is what the CMS is written in. WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, Craft CMS, Statamic, TYPO3, MODX, Grav and Sulu are PHP applications, so they sit happily on a shared cloud plan with LiteSpeed, LSCache and NVMe storage, and PHP switchable per site. Ghost is Node.js, Umbraco is .NET, Plone is Python and Radiant is Ruby on Rails. Those need a long-running process and their own runtime, which is a managed VPS job: a server that's yours, patched and monitored by us.

Either way you get the same things: three Tier 3 UK data centres, AMD EPYC processors, NVMe storage, free SSL, off-site backups, DDoS protection and a UK support team that has never been outsourced. We also move the site for you, free, and put it on a staging address before DNS changes so you can check it first.

PHP platforms on a cloud plan

Joomla, Drupal, Craft, Statamic, TYPO3, MODX, Grav and Sulu install on the same cloud hosting our WordPress customers use. LiteSpeed serves the pages, LSCache caches them, and the database sits on NVMe. Composer, SSH, Git and cron are on every plan, so a Composer-managed Drupal or Craft project deploys the way its developers expect.

Pick the plan by site count and storage. Most single CMS sites fit the entry plan; a Craft Commerce shop or a large Drupal site wants the headroom of the middle tiers.

Node, .NET, Python and Rails on a managed VPS

Ghost, Umbraco, Plone, Pimcore and Radiant need their own runtime and a process that stays running, which shared hosting doesn't provide. We provision a VPS with the right runtime and database, set up the reverse proxy and SSL, and keep the operating system patched. You get root access; you don't get the 3am pager.

Guaranteed cores, RAM and NVMe, sized on the version and the traffic before you order. The VPS range has the plan table.

Choosing

Which CMS platform, and which hosting plan to put it on

If you haven't chosen a content management system yet, the honest answer is that most sites should use WordPress: the largest plugin ecosystem, the most developers, and managed WordPress hosting tuned for it. The platforms on this page are for when WordPress is the wrong shape for the job.

Joomla and Drupal suit sites with many content types, editorial workflows or fine-grained permissions. Craft CMS and Statamic are the developer-led choices, Craft with a database and Statamic as a flat-file CMS that lives in Git. TYPO3 is common in enterprise and multilingual sites. MODX and Grav are lighter PHP options; Grav is flat-file too. Ghost is a publishing platform with newsletters and memberships built in. Umbraco is the .NET choice, Plone the Python one, and Sulu, Pimcore and Radiant cover Symfony, digital asset management and Rails respectively. A headless CMS (Statamic and Craft both run headless) sits on the same plans as the traditional version.

Whichever you pick, the hosting plan is decided by two things: the runtime, which sets shared plan or VPS as above, and the size of the site. A brochure site fits the entry cloud plan. A shop, a multilingual site or anything with a large media library wants the middle tiers, and a busy application wants a VPS with resources of its own.

On every plan

What every CMS hosting plan includes

The same platform sits under all thirteen. These are the parts that matter for running a CMS rather than a static site.

LiteSpeed and LSCache

Server-level page caching on the PHP platforms, so a cached page never touches the CMS.

NVMe SSD storage

The database and media on NVMe, which is where a content-heavy CMS spends its time.

Free SSL certificates

Issued and renewed automatically on every domain, including the admin URL.

Off-site backups

Files and database, restorable on request, so a bad plugin update is not a lost site.

Firewall and malware scanning

A web application firewall in front and daily malware scanning on the shared platform, DDoS protection on everything.

One-click installers and SSH

A one-click installer for the popular platforms, plus SSH, Composer, Git and cron for the ones you deploy by hand.

CMS hosting FAQs

What is CMS hosting?
Web hosting configured for a particular content management system: the PHP or runtime version it needs, the database it expects, caching that suits how it renders pages, and support from people who know the platform. Generic hosting runs most CMSs; hosting tuned for the platform runs them faster and with fewer surprises.
Which CMS platforms can you host?
Thirteen have their own page: Joomla, Drupal, TYPO3, MODX, Grav, Statamic, Craft CMS and Sulu on cloud plans, and Ghost, Umbraco, Plone, Pimcore and Radiant on a managed VPS. WordPress has its own managed hosting. If yours is not listed, tell us what it runs on and we will scope it.
Do I need a VPS for my CMS?
Only if the CMS is not PHP. Node.js (Ghost), .NET (Umbraco), Python (Plone) and Ruby (Radiant) need their own runtime and a long-running process, so they get a managed VPS. PHP platforms run on a cloud plan with LiteSpeed and NVMe, which is cheaper and needs no server administration.
Will you migrate my CMS site for free?
Yes. We copy the files, database and configuration, run any install or deploy steps the platform needs, and put the site on a staging address so you can check the admin, a content save and a media upload before DNS changes. Our UK team does it at no charge.

100Gbps

DDoS protection

Always-on mitigation upstream of our network, filtering attack traffic 24x7 before it reaches your server. Included on every plan at no extra cost.

Can't see your CMS?

If you run it, we can almost certainly host it, on shared, a managed VPS or a dedicated box. Tell us what you're on and a UK engineer will scope the right setup.
