What Pimcore is used for, and why it needs a server of its own
Pimcore is an open-source platform for product information management (PIM), digital asset management (DAM), master data (MDM) and content, with an ecommerce framework on top. Companies use it as the single source of truth for product data that feeds a shop, a catalogue and a marketplace at once. It is built on Symfony and PHP, and it is heavier than a typical CMS: a MariaDB database, background workers for imports and thumbnails, a search index and a lot of asset processing.
That's why Pimcore hosting here is a managed VPS rather than a shared plan. The server gets a supported PHP 8 release, MariaDB, the image and video tooling Pimcore's asset pipeline expects, a cron for the maintenance job and Symfony Messenger workers kept running by systemd. Guaranteed cores and RAM matter more for Pimcore than for most platforms because imports and thumbnail generation are CPU-bound bursts.
