Switch Credits
Last updated: August 2026
When you move to us from another host we credit what you have left with them, so you are not paying two providers at once. Here is exactly how that works.
This policy forms part of your agreement with us. If anything here is unclear, please contact us before you order.
1. What a switch credit is
A switch credit is an amount of account credit we apply to your Snappyhost account to offset the unused, prepaid time you have left with your previous hosting provider.
It is account credit, not a cash payment. It is drawn down against your Snappyhost invoices as they fall due.
The credit is applied at our discretion in accordance with these terms, and forms part of your contract with us under our Terms and Conditions.
2. Who qualifies
To qualify you must:
- be a new Snappyhost customer, or an existing customer adding a service that is genuinely migrating in from another provider;
- be moving from a hosting provider other than Snappyhost, and be moving a live website, application or mailbox rather than an empty account;
- have paid that provider in advance for a period that has not yet expired;
- be the account holder with that provider, in the same name or company name as your Snappyhost account; and
- order a qualifying plan, as set out below.
2.1 Qualifying plans.
Shared, WordPress, reseller and agency plans on a monthly or annual term qualify. VPS, dedicated servers, domains-only orders and bespoke quotations do not.
2.2 Minimum term.
Claiming a credit does not commit you to a minimum term. The contract stays monthly and rolling, with 30 days notice to cancel, but see clause 7 on what happens to an unused credit if you do.
3. What the credit is worth
The credit is the lower of:
- the value of the unused, prepaid time remaining on your previous provider's invoice, calculated pro rata from the date your Snappyhost service goes live; and
- £100 including VAT per qualifying account.
3.1 Agencies and portfolios.
Where you are moving multiple client accounts, the cap applies per qualifying account rather than per customer. An agency moving a portfolio can therefore claim a credit against each account that qualifies in its own right.
3.2 What is not included in the calculation.
We calculate the credit on hosting fees only. We exclude domain registrations and renewals, SSL certificates, licences, email services bought separately, professional services, and anything paid to a third party rather than to your previous host.
3.3 Currency.
We calculate in pounds sterling. Where your previous invoice is in another currency we convert it at the Bank of England daily spot rate on the date you claim. We use a published rate rather than one of our own so that you can check the figure yourself.
4. How to claim
Tell us you want to claim when you place your order, or within 30 days of your service going live. We cannot apply a credit retrospectively after that.
We will ask you for evidence of what you have left with your current provider. That normally means an invoice or renewal receipt showing all of the following:
- the name of your current provider;
- the account holder name, matching the name on your Snappyhost account;
- the service period, including an end date in the future;
- the amount paid and the currency;
- the domain or service the invoice relates to; and
- an invoice number or reference.
We may ask for more than one document, for example an invoice together with proof of payment or a screenshot of your current provider's control panel. We may contact you to clarify anything unclear.
Evidence that has been altered will be rejected and we may decline to deal with any further claim from you. We do check.
We will confirm your credit as soon as we have everything we need. We apply it once your migration is complete and your service is live with us.
5. Using the credit
The credit is applied to your Snappyhost account and drawn down automatically against your invoices as they fall due, until it runs out.
It can only be used against hosting fees. It cannot be used against domain registrations or renewals, third-party licences, or professional services, because those are costs we pay straight out to a registry or a vendor on your behalf.
It has no cash value, cannot be exchanged for cash, and cannot be transferred to another person or to another Snappyhost account.
If you downgrade to a smaller plan, any credit remaining at that point is forfeited. The credit was calculated against the plan you claimed it on, so it does not carry across to a cheaper one. You can move to a plan of the same value or larger and keep it.
If you are thinking about downgrading and still have credit left, talk to us first. We would rather find you the right plan than have you lose a credit by accident.
The credit expires 12 months after it is applied, and any unused balance at that point is removed. On monthly billing a credit is normally drawn down well inside that, so this rarely comes up.
6. One claim at a time
You may make a further claim for a separate service moving from a separate provider, with fresh evidence for it. You may not claim twice for the same prepaid period, the same invoice or the same domain.
The switch credit can be combined with an introductory offer where one is running. A discounted first billing period does not consume the credit, so it carries forward against your later invoices in full.
7. If you cancel
The credit offsets what you would otherwise have paid us. It is not a refundable balance.
If you cancel your service before the credit has been used up, the unused balance is removed and no refund of any kind is due in respect of it.
If you claim under our money-back guarantee, the refund is calculated on what you actually paid us in money, not on the credit applied.
If we later find that a claim was based on inaccurate or altered evidence, we may reverse the credit and invoice you for the amount it covered.
8. Our discretion, and changes
We may decline a claim, or withdraw or change this offer, at any time and at our discretion. Withdrawing or changing the offer will not affect a credit we have already confirmed and applied to your account.
Where we decline a claim we will tell you why, and you are welcome to ask us to look at it again.
Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
Not sure whether you qualify? Ask before you order. Call 0333 090 4540, email [email protected], or start on the Switch and Save page. A UK engineer will confirm your credit up front, before you commit to anything.
