Cookies
Last updated: September 2026
The cookies we use, why we use them, and how to control them. We keep it to the minimum needed to run the site well, and we do not store anything optional until you say yes.
This policy forms part of your agreement with us. If anything here is unclear, please contact us before you order.
2. Your choice comes first
When you first visit, a banner asks what you are happy with. Nothing optional is stored before you answer. Refusing is one click, exactly like accepting, and refusing does not limit your access to anything on this site.
We remember your answer for 12 months, then ask again. You can change your mind at any time using the Cookie settings link, which also sits in the footer of every page.
3. Strictly necessary cookies
These keep the site secure and working. They do not require consent and cannot be turned off, because without them forms and logins would not function. Both are set by us, are not shared with anyone, and are not used to track you between sites.
laravel-session keeps track of your visit so that things like the contact form work across page loads. It expires after 2 hours.
XSRF-TOKEN protects our forms against cross-site request forgery, a common attack against web forms. It expires after 2 hours.
sh_consent remembers the cookie choice you made on this banner, so we do not ask again every time you visit. It is set on snappyhost.co.uk and its subdomains, so our client area at my.snappyhost.co.uk follows the same choice. It expires after 12 months.
4. Analytics cookies (optional)
Only if you accept them, we use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages are useful and where people get stuck. Your IP address is anonymised, and we do not use this data for advertising or share it for advertising.
_ga and _ga_<id> tell one visitor apart from another so that visit counts mean something. They are set by Google and expire after 2 years.
If you refuse, the analytics tag runs in a mode that stores nothing on your device and cannot identify you. If you accept and later change your mind, we delete these cookies at the moment you withdraw consent.
5. PostHog analytics and session replay (optional)
Only after you accept Analytics, PostHog records pageviews and interactions on this website and the public store and checkout at my.snappyhost.co.uk. This helps us understand visits from our advertising and where visitors get stuck. Typed fields are masked before recordings leave your browser; we do not record card details, passwords or form values.
PostHog uses ph_* cookies for up to one year and browser storage to connect your visit across our website and client area. Data is sent to our PostHog EU project. You can withdraw your choice through Cookie settings; this stops the new tracking and clears its browser storage.
6. Advertising cookies (optional)
Only if you allow advertising, we load Google Ads so we can see which of our ads led to a visit or an order. Allowing analytics does not switch this on. We do not use it for personalised advertising, and we do not send Google your email address or any other details you give us.
_gcl_au is set by Google once you allow advertising, and _gcl_aw is set when you arrive from one of our ads, to hold the ad click identifier. Both expire after 90 days. They are set on snappyhost.co.uk and its subdomains, so an order placed in our client area at my.snappyhost.co.uk can be matched to the ad that brought you.
If you refuse, the Google Ads tag is not loaded at all. If you allow it and later change your mind, we delete these cookies at the moment you withdraw consent.
7. Live chat
Our chat window is powered by Crisp. Crisp stores information in your browser under crisp-client so that your conversation keeps working as you move between pages.
We load Crisp on every page of this site so the chat button is always there and a conversation is still open when you come back another day. It is not one of the choices in Cookie settings.
You can remove what Crisp stored at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
Crisp is operated by Crisp IM SARL. Loading it means your browser connects to their servers. If you would rather not use it, you can reach us by phone, email or the contact form, and we answer those just as quickly.
9. Managing cookies in your browser
As well as our banner, every major browser lets you block or delete cookies. Doing so for strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site working properly.
Instructions are in the help pages for Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge.
10. More information
For how we handle any personal data, see our Privacy Policy. If you think we have handled your data poorly you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, though we would rather you told us first so we can put it right.
