What Plone 6 needs from a hosting provider
Plone is a Python content management system on the Zope application server, used for intranets, public sector sites and anywhere with strict permissions and a long editorial life. Plone 6 comes in two shapes: Classic UI, which is the Python backend rendering pages itself, and Volto, a React frontend that talks to the Plone REST API. Either way it is not shared-hosting software; it needs its own Python, a long-running Zope process and, for Volto, a Node.js process too.
So Plone hosting here is a managed VPS. We install the supported Python and Zope, set up the ZODB (or RelStorage on PostgreSQL if the project uses it), put Nginx in front with SSL, and keep the processes running under systemd. For Volto sites the Node frontend runs alongside. Backups cover the ZODB data and blobs off-site, and our UK team patches the operating system and watches the server.
Installing and running Plone
New Plone 6 sites install with pip or cookieplone into a virtual environment; existing sites arrive as a buildout or a pip-based project. We do the install during setup and hand you the site with the admin login. Add-ons install with pip and a restart, and we'll do that with you the first time. ZEO or a single-instance setup depends on traffic and editors; we size it before you order.
Plone's own upgrade path is well documented and we follow it: upgrade in a copy first, run the migration steps, check the site, then swap.

Yes. The Volto React frontend runs as its own Node.js process next to the Plone backend, behind Nginx with SSL. Classic UI sites run without it.
What database does Plone use?
The ZODB by default, with file-system blob storage for uploads. Projects that need a relational store use RelStorage on PostgreSQL, which we set up where the project asks for it.
