Snappy Host provide hosting with fantastic and friendly support. The range of services is great and their support is quick and helpful. I have many sites with Snappy.
About the role
What you would be doing, and who with.
Snappyhost is one of the UK's fastest-growing hosting companies. We run fast, reliable hosting for agencies, developers and business owners, on LiteSpeed and NVMe servers in the UK and the US, fronted by a CDN with 78 locations. Our revenue is recurring, billed monthly and annually through our billing platform, and it is growing.
This is a hands-on Financial Controller role. You will own the month-end close, management accounts, cash flow, VAT and the reconciliations between our billing platform and the card, PayPal and Direct Debit providers behind it. You will turn that into reporting the leadership team can act on: recurring revenue, churn, margin and cash, by product and by month.
It is also a building role. Our finance processes have grown with the company and now need someone to shape them properly: clear controls, tighter credit control, documented procedures and automation where a spreadsheet is doing a system's job. As we acquire other hosting businesses, you will be part of the due diligence and the integration that follows.
Day to day
What the job involves.
- Own the month-end close and produce timely, accurate management accounts with commentary the leadership team can act on.
- Manage cash flow, forecasting and budgets, and flag early when the numbers move away from the plan.
- Reconcile billing platform revenue to card, PayPal and Direct Debit settlements, and to the bank, every month.
- Prepare and file VAT returns, handle UK compliance, and work with our external accountants on statutory accounts, corporation tax and year-end.
- Run credit control and dunning so unpaid invoices are chased consistently and fairly, and bad debt stays low.
- Build and maintain recurring-revenue reporting: MRR, churn, renewals, margin by product, and the cost of the servers, licences and data centres behind them.
- Own supplier payments, payroll inputs, expenses and the controls around them.
- Support acquisitions: review the numbers of hosting businesses we look at, and integrate their billing and books once a deal completes.
- Write the SOPs (standard operating procedures) for finance, tighten the processes, automate the repetitive parts, and help build the company forward.
Must-haves
What you need to bring.
You should be genuinely comfortable with every one of these. The practical session is built around them.
Qualification
ACCA, CIMA or ACA qualified, or finalist with strong hands-on experience as a financial controller or senior management accountant.
UK compliance
Confident with UK VAT, statutory accounts, corporation tax deadlines and working with external accountants.
Month-end ownership
You have closed the books yourself: accruals, prepayments, deferred revenue, reconciliations and management accounts.
Recurring revenue
Experience with subscription or recurring billing: deferred revenue, annual plans, renewals, churn and MRR reporting.
Payments and reconciliation
Comfortable reconciling a billing system to card, PayPal and Direct Debit payouts and to the bank.
Systems and spreadsheets
Strong in Xero or similar cloud accounting, and genuinely good with spreadsheets. You would rather automate a report than rebuild it monthly.
Clear communication
You explain the numbers in plain English to people who are not accountants, and you say so when something does not add up.
Fast learner
A growing company changes quickly. You pick up new systems, products and processes fast and enjoy shaping them.
Nice to have
Helpful, not required.
- Experience in a web host, SaaS or other subscription business.
- Hands-on experience with WHMCS or another hosting billing platform.
- Multi-currency and US sales tax exposure, as we have US servers and customers worldwide.
- Acquisition due diligence or post-deal integration experience.
- Experience building finance processes from scratch in a scaling business.

A business that is growing
Recurring revenue, a growing customer base and acquisitions to get your teeth into.
Room to grow
A fast-growing company where you help shape the process and build the company forward, so new responsibility arrives quickly.
